Scholarship Opportunity – All-USA Academic Team Scholarship (Open to all current students of Faulkner State Community College) 

Attention students:  The All-USA Academic Team Scholarship Committee at Faulkner State Community College is now accepting applications.  Students interested in applying should contact Dean Lena Dexter at 251-580-2170 or via e-mail at 

If you would like to apply, you must submit a 500-word essay (see the topic below) describing your most significant endeavor while attending Faulkner State Community College in which you extended your community college education to benefit the College, the community or society.  This essay must be e-mailed to Dean Dexter ( no later than November 7, 2014 by 4:00 p.m.  Please attach an unofficial copy of your transcript to the e-mail.  You can access that document by logging into your Interact account at  You will also need to submit the names of the person who will be submitting letters for you.  See the instructions for the section on letters of student assessment.

A review panel will rate the nominees and will notify the two finalists for Faulkner State from each campus.  The finalists will be notified on November 15.  The finalist will have until December 1 to complete the application.  Applications can be found at  The advisor will submit it to Phi Theta Kappa headquarters on December 4, 2014.  Each campus may have two finalists. 

You do not have to be a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society to apply for this scholarship. 

According to, “the All-USA Community College Academic Team recognizes high achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Twenty team members are named annually with each receiving a $2,500 scholarship, a total of $50,000 in scholarship awards. In addition to scholarships, team members are featured in the USA TODAY newspaper and presented at the annual President’s Breakfast held during the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention.”

2014 All-USA Academic Team Scholarship Essay (to be submitted to Dean Dexter):

Describe your most significant accomplishment since attending Faulkner State Community College in which you applied your academic or intellectual skills learned through your community college education to benefit your school, community or society.  This endeavor may be in community/service learning, in research, in the arts, journalism, advocacy, public affairs, etc.  Limit your essay to one specific endeavor (500 words or less).
