Pi Psi Chapter Brings Home Awards
Faulkner State's Pi Psi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society ranked among the best at last week's Regional Convention held at Northeast Alabama Community College.
Above: The 2015-2016 Pi Psi Chapter Officers
The Pi Psi Chapter was the only chapter in Alabama to complete a "Competitive Edge" challenge, which teaches students soft skills. This program helps students by increasing their “emotional intelligence quotient.” Language, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are emphasized in the program. Faulkner State’s chapter was the only chapter in the Alabama Region in which all officers successfully completed the Competitive Edge course.
At the Regional Convention, the Pi Psi Chapter won the Five Star Award, the award for the College Project, the outstanding member (Greg Sims), the Outstanding Officer Team Award (Lauren Moorer, Aren Valrie, Christy McMahon, Chris Swinney, Cameron Byrd, Katlyn Rice, and Andrea Martinez), and the Faulkner State Chapter won the Regional President's position (Trevor Ritchie). The Pi Psi Chapter is up for the same awards at the International Convention in Washington, DC in April. Because of our students’ outstanding performance, Faulkner State will host the 2017 Regional Convention.
The following students serve as Faulkner State's Pi Psi Chapter Officers:
- Lauren Moorer, Chapter President
- Aren Valerie, Vice President of Fellowship
- Chris Swinney, Vice President of Leadership
- Katlyn Rice, Vice President of Scholarship
- Cameron Byrd, Vice President of Honors
