Hernandez Named Miss Faulkner State

On April 4, Faulkner State Community College crowned Kimberly Hernandez of Fort Rucker, Ala. as its 2013 Miss Faulkner State.

Hernandez, a pre-medicine major, was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and is the daughter of Ralph and Ana Hernandez.  Hernandez has already made a distinct impression during her first year at Faulkner State playing volleyball and serving as co-captain for the Lady Sun Chiefs, while still maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Celeste Robertson, the Pageant Director, said Hernandez will serve her sophomore year as Miss Faulkner State.

“Kimberly will serve as a college ambassador,” Robertson said.  “She will make appearances at college and community functions as needed.  She will also participate in service projects and will work in the Admissions Office at Faulkner State.”

Fourteen contestants participated in this year’s pageant in the L. D. Owen Performing Arts Center on the Bay Minette Campus.  Featured in the 2013 Miss Faulkner State Pageant were: Kimberly Hernandez (Miss Faulkner State), Alexis Treace (First Runner-Up), Morgan Yates (Second Runner-Up), Rebecca Andersson (Miss Congeniality), Devan Ham (Most Photogenic) Makenzie Tobin (People’s Choice Award), Kristina Demetropolis, Claire Milligan, Stephanie McManus, Katherine Bankester, Katy Ashton Singley, Danielle Clark, Jasmine Philyaw, Taylor Tingle and Kaitlyn Yarbrough.

Contestants must attend dress rehearsals, a community service project, interviews and four weeks of practice.  Applications for the pageant are accepted each spring.  Students participating in the pageant must meet the following criteria:
have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, be a full-time freshman who has completed one semester at Faulkner State prior to the pageant, and they must meet any additional criteria listed on the Miss Faulkner State application.
