Gulf Coast Culinary Institute Ranks Top in Nation (Twice)
Gulf Shores, Alabama - Faulkner State Community College's Gulf Coast Culinary Institute (GCCI) has been named among the top programs in the United States by both a restaurant industry magazine and a noted college search website.
FSR Magazine named GCCI one of "America's Top 22 Culinary Schools" in its September 2016 issue. Connie Gentry wrote, "Starting with lists that named more than 1,000 schools and educational programs, FSR
researched and identified 22 top schools. The top schools have proven reputations with strong ties to leaders in the industry and alumni who are excelling in foodservice. Accreditation by organizations such as the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) or the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) adds a weighty stamp of authority. Real success is measured . . . in how prepared graduates are and the school’s job placement rate."
Best Choice Schools published its list of "50 Best Culinary Schools in the US 2016" in August of this year. "We looked for schools that offer hands-on experience, internship/externship opportunities, student operated restaurants, modern facilities, and a solid reputation in the industry. We only looked at schools that were nationally accredited or accredited by the American Culinary Federation," wrote Kelley Jacobs. "We came up with our list of the 50 Best Programs and ranked them based on the information we reviewed and our overall impression of the school, information from College Navigator, internet reviews, and the school website. All of these schools offer quality programs which can help students be successful in the field of culinary arts."
In both rankings, Faulkner's GCCI appears with such notable institutions as the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales University.
"We are delighted to be recognized for the excellence and value of the education we offer our students, and for its affordability," said Ed Douglas, Chair of Faulkner State’s Hospitality Division. "We are proud of our faculty and our students and grateful to the local restaurant community for their interest and involvement in our program."
The Gulf Coast Culinary Institute provides programs in Culinary, Event Planning, Pastry Baking and Hospitality Management. Students in the GCCI have the opportunity to operate a fine dining restaurant, known as Frederic’s on the Gulf Shores Campus. They also have opportunities to participate in local cook-offs and festivals, such as the Festival of Flavor.
