FS Police Dept Receives Recognition for Sexual Assault Awareness Efforts

Bay Minette, Alabama – Two representatives from Faulkner State Community College's Police Department have been nominated for their participation in The Lighthouse’s Sexual Assault Program.  Chris Johnson, Campus Police Chief, and Jonathan Davidson, Campus Police Sergeant, at Faulkner State were nominated and selected for “Ten Men,” an organization that selects a group of ten men as honorees for their service and participation in aiding victims of domestic and sexual violence.

“As representatives of the College, we owe it to our students, employees and visitors to provide a high level of professionalism and services to them,” Johnson said.  “One of the ways we give back to them is by providing victims of sexual assault avenues in the event that they are involved in an incident such as that.”

Faulkner State partnered with The Lighthouse, which is an organization that offers mentoring, psychological counseling and other services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

“This organization is all about the victim; they are willing to meet victims on or off campus, so this program really provides a great deal of service to the Faulkner State, and for that, we’re very appreciative,” Johnson said.

Knowing about sexual assault, domestic violence and other crimes, and educating the College community is of top importance at Faulkner State.

“We have to educate our students and employees on sexual assault awareness, and part of what we’ve done from an educational aspect is making our students aware by tying this information of sexual violence and abuse into our freshman orientation courses,” Johnson said.  “The safety of our College community is our priority, and the more they know about sexual abuse and sexual violence, the more we can all work together to prevent it.”

The Lighthouse assists Faulkner State by providing seminars, pamphlets and materials to ensure the safety of the College and its community.
