Culinary Program Ranks Top 20 in Nation


Gulf Coast Culinary Institute at Faulkner State Named Among Top 20 in USA

The Gulf Coast Culinary Institute at Faulkner State has been rated one of the top twenty culinary schools in the United States by FSR (Full Service Restaurant) magazine. Other schools on the prestigious list of 20 include The Culinary Institute of America, Johnson & Wales University, and Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Schools.

"The Top 20 Culinary Schools were selected based on a number of criteria compiled from extensive research and industry interviews," Marilyn Odesser-Torpey, FSR reporter, describes. 

"Each of the schools selected combines comprehensive classroom education with hands-on work in well-equipped, on-campus kitchens and labs. The ability for students to participate in practical field experience during their educational training, either through on-campus restaurants or externships, also weighed into the selection process."

The Gulf Coast Culinary Institute at Faulkner State is located on the College’s Gulf Shores campus.  During their time in the Institute, students have opportunities to participate in local culinary events, such as the Shrimp Festival Restaurant Challenge, and they have opportunities operating a full-service, gourmet restaurant on the Gulf Shores campus known as Frederic’s. 

“Our students leave our program ready to begin their career in the culinary and hospitality fields,” Ed Douglas, Hospitality Management Division Chair, says.  “Our chefs and instructors are dedicated to setting them up for success, and I believe that is evident by our recognition by FSR magazine.”
