Adult Ed Dept Receives Donation for Students
Fairhope Christian Church has donated $3,500 to Faulkner State Community College’s Adult Education Program. The funds will be used to establish the Fairhope Christian Church GED Scholarship Fund. These funds will be used to offset the $120 fee currently charged to take the GED test. Those qualifying for these funds must demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship. According to Pastor Danny Barfield, this is just a start in helping the GED students.
Faulkner State has also received funding from the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education that will allow qualifying individuals to save up to $100.00 of the total GED® test fee of $120.00. A full waiver of the $24.00 GED Ready® test fee is also available for qualifying individuals. The GED Ready® test is the new name for the shorter length GED® practice test.
The GED® Test now consists of four parts; Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies. Each part of the GED® test may now be taken independently. The test fee for each part of the GED® is $30.00 or $120.00 for all four parts. The test fee waiver is $25.00 per test for qualifying individuals or up to $100.00 for all four parts. The qualifying test-taker would then be responsible for paying only $5.00 per test part or $20.00 for all four parts.
The GED Ready® test also contains the same four parts as the GED® test and each part may be taken independently. The test fee for each part of the GED Ready® test is $6.00. The test fee waiver for qualifying individuals is $6.00 per test part or $24.00 for all four parts.
The eligibility requirement for the Fairhope Christian Church GED Scholarship Fund is a demonstrated financial need after the student receives 15 hours of classroom instruction in Faulkner State’s GED Program. Also, there must be a reasonable expectation that the student will pass the GED test as determined by the instructor.
In order to be eligible for the fee waivers funded by the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, a student must first be enrolled in Faulkner State’s GED program and have attended at least 15 hours of classroom instruction at Faulkner State. Faulkner State offers free GED® classes throughout the Baldwin County area to prepare students to take the GED® test. Faulkner State has 12 class sites in several communities throughout Baldwin County. These classes are free of charge and accessible to all students who want to take the GED® test. We also offer an online class for those students who cannot come to a seated class. For more information about the GED® scholarships or a GED class site, please call 251-580-2105.
